Mars
He has been captivating people for ages. Many scientists and scholars have dedicated their lives to him. Tycho Brahe cut his teeth on him. After securing Tycho’s data, Kepler set himself the task of determining the exact orbit of Mars once and for all. Under he was able to solve the riddle. Kepler’s pioneering laws are still the basis for space travel today.1877 were seen by Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli observing the canal of Mars. Some of them represent canyons or gradations in the terrain, but most do not correspond to any structure on the surface of Mars known today. But up until the last century, these observations fueled the legend of extraterrestrials on Mars.
In the meantime, the red planet has been better processed than its colleagues, the moon or the depths of the terrestrial seas.
A number of missions to reach Mars have already been successful. The Mars helicopter Ingenuity has been on the road for a year. Planned as a technology demonstrator, it now has major tasks.
The Mars rover Curiosity and Perseverance, as well as the Chinese rover Zhurong since May 2021, are also sending permanent images to Earth.
Elon Musk with his company SpaceX would like to send the first humans to Mars in about 8-10 years.
And we? – We want to bring art to Mars.
Hello, my name is Sabine Heinz and I am one of the Vice Presidents of Space Renaissance International, an association dedicated to the civil exploration, exploitation and settlement of space.
Together with The Mars Society and the Planetarium Berlin Foundation, we would like to launch the art project “Art goes to Mars”.
Life on Mars will be very hard and it will be many decades before – if ever – the first human being is born there.
Why do we want to bring art to Mars?
Art belongs to humanity. That’s why art has to go with mankind when it comes to space.
Now it’s your turn! Send us your artwork!
What do we want to say to the people who will one day live there?
What message do we want to give them?
We would like to call on you to send us your works of art.
These can be fine art pictures, photographs, stories, science fiction, music compositions, dances, theater presentations or films.
Since the transport is very expensive, we will collect the works on a USB stick and send it to Mars. At the same time we will organize exhibitions and performances.
We will select 100 artworks to start their journey to Mars. The works of art, if it is a film project, play, music or dance – a picture of it, will later be collected in a book. And maybe we can raise enough money to fund the shipping of this book as well. Then with this book, in addition to our art, we would lay the first cornerstone for a library on Mars.
And who knows? Maybe your artwork will be included?
Are you in?
Here you will find all further information on how to participate!
